18 Ways to Ruin Your Vibration
We talk all the time about how to increase vibration- here's how to wreck it. 18 behaviors +1 belief structure to avoid.
*For your listening pleasure there is also an audio version of this article read by the author. It may include a few sidebars ;)
1.) Imagining Outcomes to Situations You Don’t Want
There’s protecting our downside, and engaging in what-if scenarios that practice emotionally creating the exact outcomes we want to avoid. We align with situations that match our inner world, so let’s not imagine ourselves into emotional states we’d rather avoid. It’s the first step to creating that reality.
2.) Prioritizing 3D Value Over the 5D Value
Say I have the opportunity look good by copying someone’s work. I take it. This is taking the 3D value (looking good in the short term) versus the 5D (building character and ethics). Turning down the opportunity, doing the work myself, and accepting I won’t look as cool takes far more inner fortitude and confidence. When we take the easy 3D value it’s like saying, “No thanks” to a higher vibration version of ourselves.
3.) Compulsive Listening to Music/Podcasts/TV
Silence, or the soft sounds of nature represent our home vibration. If we find ourselves uncomfortable in silence it’s a sign we have strayed too far from our vibrational home. It’s not that we need to drive ourselves to boredom, but learning to find peace in the comfort of silence is what keeps our frequency from spiraling too far from center.
4.) Looking for Quick Fixes
Here’s a pill to fix your migraine. Do you want to explore why you may be having those? Illness is often indicative of a disconnection from nature and our inner self, which is an inherently low vibration state.
When we silence symptoms and move on, we bury a clue the body was giving us about how it’s going out of balance, and into a lower vibration realm. Choosing not to solve for the root causes of health issues are one of the main ways we let our vibration get out of check. Don’t leave this candy on the table.
5.) Making Promises You Don’t Keep
When we consistently let other people down the disappointment and frustration we’re creating in the world impacts our vibration.
6.) Consistently Accommodating Others
When we consistently prioritize others who are we not prioritizing? Ourselves. Who is going to end up with low vibration frustration and resentment stored? Us. When we primarily concern ourselves with keeping other’s feelings intact we train ourselves to look outward instead of inward- where intuition and insight on how to raise vibration live.
When we care for ourselves we’re often in a higher vibration space, and people naturally gravitate into our orbit. It’s a much healthier way to keep those in our space content vs. ignoring our needs and diminishing our vibration by routinely indulging others.
7.) Engaging in Unequal Resource Chains
From peanut butter made cheaper with palm oil that kicks the rainforest in the shins, to paying less for clothes from trendy sites with cringy labor practices, to if farm animals deserve a life with some kindness, there are vibratory trades happening as we shift benefits around the resource chains we participate in.
We take a vibrational hit when we choose not to develop awareness of other beings in our supply chains, and share some value with them. Even if it means not having as many “looks” in our closet. There’s a vibratory cost to excess gained through unethical advantages.
I’m sure there are many ways I’m still a hypocrite on this one, but I’m doing my best to say no to as many purchases as I can that support supply chains with little to no kindness shown for a cow, or a woman in Bangladesh.
“All beings cherish happiness and do not want to suffer. It then becomes both morally wrong and pragmatically unwise to pursue only one's own happiness oblivious to the feelings and aspirations of all others.” ~Dalai Lama
8.) Disrupting Circadian Rhythms
What is vibration if not a collection of rhythms? When we overdose on too much artificial light, not enough time outside, or too many screens it’s like micro-dosing on vibration disruptors.
9.) Low Vibration Language
Do you ever get the sense you can feel when someone’s language is creating a hole for them they’ll have to vibrationally climb out of? When I sense this it’s usually talk punctuated with a lot of swear words, limiting language, and an external focus that doesn’t take a lot of personal ownership or accountability.
10.) Avoiding the Cleansing Periods of Life
Cleansing periods are what I call the seasons of life where we have to let go of our old ways, people, routines or things we’ve built to move in to the next up-leveled version of us. Avoiding this space of cleansing is how we delay becoming the dopest soul we can be. It’s like fall; growth doesn’t let us avoid seasons. If a tree holds its leaves forever it becomes the ugly tree of the next season.
There’s a grace and courage in this transition, and in developing the faith spring comes next. Whether it’s letting go of a relationship that doesn’t resonate and hanging out by yourself until other people you want to date show up, or letting go of old routines before you know what you’ll do next, we delay our vibratory growth when we fear letting go.
11.) Would You Want to Hang Out With Your Inner Voice?
When we don’t enjoy our own company, it’s often because we allow our inner voice to speak to us in ways we’d slam the door on a stranger for doing. Listening to insults, self doubt, or being constantly berated by yourself all day has a serious impact on your vibrational frequency.
12.) Messing With Your Microbiome
Just one course of antibiotics increases our risk of anxiety and depression; when we eliminate our biodiversity we put our self identity at risk. To quote a recent podcast with Dr. Zach Bush, “Self is not a single species. Self is a description of your relationship to the nature within you.”
We are getting to this crazy moment in science where we are realizing just how reliant our mental health is on pounds of bacteria in our gut. To believe we should routinely kill bacteria and fungi inside us to be healthy is now emerging as a serious flaw in our medical evolution. A chunk of our vibrational health is looking dependent on the healthy vibrations of trillions of bacteria in us. Trippy doesn’t even begin to describe that.
13.) Rushing
When we rush everywhere in life we turn ourselves into a weak magnet. Always being pulled around by someone else, or by stories we tell ourselves about why we need to rush, is vibrationally diminishing. Living in the vibration of rushing to things is very different than getting on the vibrational frequency of being magnetic and drawing what you want to you.
14.) Wanting People to Accommodate Us
We all have young parts of ourselves; we may think we want them accommodated, but the biggest favor someone can do us is calmly offer feedback on how our behavior is landing, and not accommodate our immature aspects. When underdeveloped parts of us are consistently accommodated we don’t grow.
15.) Trying to Force Conformity
This makes me think of one of my favorite Arrested Development clips where Job tries to start a party early by ordering everyone to dance.
In a world of differing values, and tolerance for only certain emotions at certain times, allowing space for people to fully express themselves (when it’s not in alignment with how we think the world should work) may be one of the hardest things to do. At least, it has been for me.
To let go of thinking people should always act specific ways, or value specific things is something I’ll probably never fully cleanse myself of, but I’m proud of the space I’ve created in myself while trying. Low vibration is when we try to force everyone else into boxes we build.
16.) Emotional Suppression
Want to tank your vibrational frequency? Emotional suppression is for you. Suppression = storage of low vibration emotions.
For a vibrational boost, give those around you the privilege of seeing who you really are and what you’re going through. The beautiful mix of vulnerability landing with present listening is magic for both souls.
17.) Needing Your Vibration Consistently Supported
Can you have fun on your own? Enjoy your own company? We don’t need to spend our whole day staring at the ocean solo to have a rapid vibration, but we don’t want it to be uncomfortable either.
When we consistently need the support of screens or vibrations from other people to have a good time, it’s pointing to something that may be going vibrationally wonky inside us. When we cultivate a peaceful vibration inside hanging out solo is just as rewarding as being with others.
“I find that when I can regularly practice solitude I’m singing to a different tune, I’m resonating at a different frequency. It impacts how I feel about myself, how I interact with my children. We no longer make time to just be with ourselves.” ~Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, Feel Better Live More
18.) Not Understanding Moderation
Some part of my soul just loves intensity, and I’ve been working in recent years to tame it. I’ve named this part of me The Maximizer. The Maximizer must wring the most out of every experience, find the most efficient route somewhere. Yet, there’s such an energetic cost to going for the most or best of everything.
It takes a certain amount of effort and strategy to consistently go beyond what’s moderate, and the resulting loss of vitality impacts our vibration.
Low Vibration Belief: People Enjoy Being Around Me When They Can Be the Bigger Energy
I’m pretty aware of the energetic currents in my body, and noticed I was habitually pulling my energy in. Subconsciously thinking people like experiencing themselves as the dominant energetic party… so they would like me more if I was small. Ugh. How sad.
Now I resonate more with the belief people will enjoy basking in a big beautiful version of energetic me. Especially because I’ve put time in to developing a juicy vibration; it’s like a gift I can give. If anyone leaves because they can’t consistently be the “big energy” that’s probably some good weeding for my social garden.
